Research has shown that barnacles are mostly absent in coastal tidal zones. There has been much mystery as to why this is. Now, new studies explain this. Barnacles thrive in vertical dwelling environments. This contradicts an older assumption that barnacles do not like vertical dwelling environments. Scientists believe that they do indeed like these environments because they are constantly being bounded against rocky wall, and they thrive with this contact.
