Tsunami in Chile

Tsunamis are not tidal waves they are caused by earthquakes, volcanoes or landslides on the ocean floor. The tsunami in Chile was caused by an earthquake with an 8.8 magnitude. This is because the plate boundaries move and displace water. (As shown in image). In the ocean tsunamis have a small wave height and a large wave length. They only grow once shoaling.
