Michigan Avenue Bridge
The Michigan Avenue Bridge was constructed over 3 years, from 1917-1920. It was designed by Edward H. Bennett
It consists of two separate bridges, called leaves. Each leaf weighs approximately 3,750 tons.
It is approximately 220 feet long
The bridge is the main link between downtown Chicago and the north side of the city. It was constructed because prior to its construction, there was no main reliable link between the two areas.
It was designated a Chicago Landmark on October 2, 1991.
It is made of limestone, which is a sedimentary rock that contains the mineral calcite. This means that if we were to put hydrochloric acid on the bridge (which we didn't seeing as it is a Chicago Landmark), there would be a reaction
