Minerals Underwater?

I found an article that was about companies in Africa and suddenly wanting to mine the ocean floor for valuable minerals such as gold. The two leading companies, one from Australia and another from Canada, have not even started drilling yet, mostly because the process of underwater extraction is purported to be very difficult. Nautilus Minerals, the Toronto-based company is set to start drilling in the Pacific Ocean off of Papua New Guinea using underwater vehicles. They have estimated that the site for their drilling contains almost 900,000 tons of gold, silver, copper, and zinc, which is quite a haul. Whether this project is successful or not remains to be seen, but this field of mining could turn into quite a lucrative business.
