NASA to Start Flights Over Antarctica

NASA is going to start sending out planes equipped with laser mapping instruments as well as "ice-penetrating radar and gravity instruments". The project codenamed "Operation Ice Bridge", is set to begin on October 15 and is going to last six years. The reason this is taking place is because we want to answer questions on how the ice is changing. The equipment on the plane allows NASA to see what they cant see with satellites. They will be able to see how much water is under the ice and how it changes. With the information NASA gathers form these flights we will be able to tell how melting ice effects the sea levels.
