3. The Pittsfield building is made out of limestone on the outside and granite on the inside. The outer surface of the building is composed of ammonoid and belemite fossils in a reddish Alpine Jurassic limestone.

The fossilization of marine organisms is the primary source of the organic mineral that makes up limestone, calcite, or calcium carbonate. The building is used mostly by doctors, dentists and jewelers A real estate developer has bought the thirteenth through twenty-first floors of the building with plans for a dormitory at a cost of $23 million.
