The Water Tower

The Water Tower, built in 1869, is one of Chicago's oldest landmarks. It was designed by William W. Boyington who also designed the state capitol building in Springfield. The water tower is built with limestone, which is a sedimentary rock. Limestone has calcite in it so if you put HCL on it you would get a reaction. The water tower is one of the few buildings that survived the Chicago fire. It is the inspiration of the white castle resturant design.
