In Triassic times, all of the earth's continents were joined together into a vast landmass called Pangaea (which was itself surrounded by an enormous ocean called Panthalssa). Pangaea started to break up later in the Triassic period. The climate was hot and dry. The start of the Triassic followed the Permian Extinction, an event of unknown cause that wiped out over two-thirds of land-dwelling vertebrates. The Triassic was the period where the ozone was created and all things, plants and dinosaur like animals started to crawl out of the water making their way onto land to claim their rightful place as the dominant life forms on earth at that time. The plants were mostly fern-like and the animal were giant lizard-like dinosaurs, somewhat symbolizing today’s crocodiles, only thousands of times bigger.
