The 411 on the Silurian Period

So here are the main events and some important facts to remember about the Silurian period...

The Silurian period made up only 30 million years of Earth's history. It witnessed a relative stabilization of the world's general climate, ending the previous patterns of extreme, unpredictable climatic changes. The melting of large glaciers contributed to a significant rise in sea levels, creating many new marine habitats. In the Silurian, we find the first evidence of coral reefs. Jawed fish and freshwater fish also made their first appearance and joined the seas with jawless fish, which were becoming abundant.

In addition, due to the increasingly oxygen rich atmosphere, the Silurian was the first period to host clear evidence of life on land. Tiny vascular plants, which have been the basis of terrestrial ecology since their appearance, inhabited the land and further evolved during the Silurian.
