bareMINERALS
Recently in the media advertisement for mineral based makeup has been all the rage. Yet, is this simply a display name or is their actually scientific reason for the title? Since this topic is relevant to both the class and many high school girls lives; I decided to do further research. One has to be considerate of the biased opinion potentially included in the article. But according to them the makeup is based of purified and ground up minerals. This is beneficial to the consumer because it supposedly doesn't clog pores, therefore avoiding damage to your skin.
Most common minerals included are mica, zinc oxide and titanium oxide. Some types of mineral makeup also contain bismuth, also a mineral but not a natural one. It is a byproduct of copper and lead processing. What is actually significant about mineral makeup is what is not included in their ingredients: artificial fragrances, synthetic dyes and “binders” that hold the makeup tightly to your skin. True mineral makeups do not contain these compounds and are therefore significantly better for your skin.

ReplyDeleteThis post immediately caught my eye because I have used mineral makeup myself. I was even wondering myself during our mineral unit whether this is the sort of material that is really in my makeup. I liked the article Melina found because it really shows the benefits of minerals as opposed to more artificial ingredients.
