The Crust

The crust is sitting on the top part of the mantle. It is in the Lithosphere.
There are two types of crust...
  • Oceanic
  • Continental
The oceanic crust...
  • Denser
  • Thinner
  • Newer
  • Made of basalt
The Continental crust...
  • Thicker
  • Older
  • Made of granite
The crust is divided into plates. There are also two different types of plates. They are also continental and oceanic. These plates glide along the Asthenosphere moving into, away and next to each other.
There are three ways the plates interact...
  • Converging
  • Transforming
  • Submerging
Converging boundaries are when two plates move into each other. When two continental plates diverge rock comes up and forms mountains.

Transforming boundaries are when two plates rub against each other. This causes earthquakes

Submerging boundaries are when one plate moves under another plate. When a continental plate meets a oceanic plate the oceanic plate goes under to form a trench and volcanoes. When two oceanic plates move into each other one goes under.
